2015 Forum Program »

Committed to the fight against bacterial resistance

Organized at the initiative of bioMérieux in June 2015, the fifth edition of the World HAI/Resistance Forum will bring together in Annecy (France) over 65 internationally-renowned experts in the field of antimicrobial resistance and healthcare-associated infections, representing 33 different countries. The topic of this year’s Forum will be: “Antimicrobial resistance: One World, One Fight!”.

The World HAI/Resistance Forum is a private initiative independent from official organizations or authorities.

One Health – One World

A global public health challenge requires a global response – and today, a “One World – One Health” approach is essential in the fight against antimicrobial resistance.

For its 5th Edition, the World HAI/Resistance Forum will therefore focus on bringing together representatives from the clinical and veterinary sectors to drive discussion and initiatives that address this major public health issue in its entirety.

First Global Point Prevalence Survey (Global-PPS) of Hospital Antibiotic Use and Resistance

During the previous Forum, bioMérieux committed to support one of the priority actions established by the experts to address the challenges of antimicrobial resistance.

The Company is therefore contributing to a unique, global Point Prevalence Survey (PPS) to gain a better overview of antibiotic use and resistance worldwide.

This survey will provide a unique “snapshot” of the global burden of antibiotic consumption and resistance. It is supervised by a European Task Force of leading experts and coordinated by the University of Antwerp (Belgium). Preliminary results will be presented during the 5th Forum in June 2015, and a final report should be available by November, coinciding with Antibiotic Awareness Week 2015.

Preliminary results were presented during the 5th Forum in June 2015, and a poster was presented at the ID Week Congress in San Diego, Oct. 7-11, 2015. A final report should be available by November, coinciding with Antibiotic Awareness Week 2015.

bioMérieux is proud to be the exclusive sponsor of this important global initiative.

Antibiotic Awareness Week – November 17-23, 2014

BIOMERIEUX - A “ONE HEALTH” APPROACH TO HUMAN AND VETERINARY HEALTH

Just as microbes know no borders, there are no borders between human and veterinary health.

bioMérieux is a diagnostics company with a unique offer to fight antimicrobial resistance that spans both clinical and veterinary diagnostics :

  • Clinical diagnostic solutions: microbial identification/susceptibility testing, screening and active surveillance, outbreak management and trend monitoring, differentiation of bacterial/viral infections…
  • Veterinary diagnostic solutions: identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing/ resistance detection.

Our company also has a long-standing commitment to the prevention and management of antibiotic resistance through educational initiatives, such as the World HAI/Resistance Forum. It is therefore important for us to contribute to the annual Awareness Week on this major public health issue.

How is bioMérieux supporting Antibiotic Resistance Awareness in 2014 ?

► In 2014, bioMérieux is proud to be the exclusive sponsor of an important global initiative to assess Antibiotic Resistance and Usage rates

First Global Point Prevalence Survey (Global-PPS) of Hospital Antibiotic Use and Resistance

The Global-PPS will provide a unique “snapshot” of the global burden of antibiotic consumption and resistance.
It is supervised by a European Task Force of leading experts and coordinated by the University of Antwerp.
A final report should be available by next November, coinciding  with Antibiotic Awareness Week 2015.

► bioMérieux is also launching an accessible, rapid, all-in-one test for the diagnosis and screening of carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacilli (CP-GNB).

The RAPIDEC® CARBA NP test* detects carbapenemase activity in major GNB such as Enterobacteriaceae, P. aeruginosa and A. baumannii in 30 minutes to 2 hours.

* The RAPIDEC® CARBA NP test has been developed in collaboration with Professor Patrice Nordmann and Doctor Laurent Poirel based on the original Carba NP test.

European Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (EAVLD) – October 12, 2014

The 3rd EAVLD Congress on veterinary diagnostics will be held from 12 to 15 October, 2014, in Pisa, Italy.

bioMérieux will be present as exhibitor during the EAVLD congress, which will be the opportunity to present our microbiology offer from manual to full automated solutions.

Declaration against Antibiotic Resistance – June 23, 2014

bioMérieux is proud to support the WAAAR declaration against antibiotic resistance.

In this declaration, WAAAR advocates for a 10-step action plan, including:

  • the appropriate use of rapid, cost-effective and accurate diagnostic tests
  • antibiotic stewardship in both humans (hospitals, long term care facilities and primary care) and animals (animal husbandry, agriculture, aquaculture and animal health /veterinary setting), in a “one health” philosophy.

This is fully in line with bioMérieux’s own approach to fighting antibiotic resistance, which involves the development of high medical value tests (e.g. for rapid, reliable detection of carbapenem resistance), and educational actions to promote the implementation of stewardship programs.

Antibiotic Awareness Week – November 18-24, 2013

bioMérieux is proud to support Antibiotic Awareness Week.

This annual initiative provides a unique opportunity to RAISE AWARENESS about the threat of antimicrobial resistance to public health among healthcare professionals and the general public.

Our company has a long-standing commitment to the prevention and management of antibiotic resistance through dedicated diagnostic solutions and educational initiatives.

Focus on Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS)
Antimicrobial Stewardship is a key strategy in the fight against antibiotic resistance.
It aims to reduce the unnecessary use of antibiotics, optimize their use, and promote the use of antibiotics less likely to select resistant bacteria.

European Antibiotic Awareness Day - November 18th, 2012

This day aims to raise awareness about the threat of antibiotic resistance to public health and to promote prudent antibiotic use. It is organized annually by the European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC)*.

  • In Europe, 25,000 people die every year from antibiotic-resistant infections.*
  • 440,000 new cases of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in 69 countries were reported in 2009.*
  • 70% of bacteria responsible for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are resistant to at least one of the antibiotics that were once used to treat them.*

bioMérieux fully supports this annual public health initiative which provides a unique opportunity to raise awareness about antibiotic resistance. Our company has a long-standing commitment to the prevention and management of antibiotic resistance through dedicated diagnostic solutions and educational initiatives.

  • In November 2012, in support of the European Antibiotic Awareness Day, we have released a new issue of our newsletter focusing on Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae, as well as an educational video, to raise awareness among patients and the general public
